DAVID Rhodes (Letters, December 12) stated he was somewhat mystified that there had been such a lack of response by Evening Press readers to the proposal by Selby District Councillors to award themselves a salary.
Perhaps Mr Rhodes has overlooked the possibility that the reason for this surprising silence could be due to the fact that some, so-called, council tax payers are no such thing - in practice anyway.
These people have generous rebates or benefits to cover their council tax bills for them.
Therefore, they have nothing to worry about with regard to the funding of Selby District councillors' proposed salaries. Why should they? It's not their problem.
Those of us who do pay our own council tax bills don't seem to matter any more. So why bother to object to our wallets being reduced or our lifetime's hard-earned savings melting away before our very eyes, because it would be a waste of our time and energy.
