THREE John Smith's York and District Sunday League games surprisingly beat the festive freeze.
Division one leaders New Earswick travelled to local rivals and reigning champions Wigginton and went down 2-1 to two goals from Tom Matthews. Charlie Holmes replied for the vanquished visitors.
In division two, Jubilee adapted to the frozen conditions and were quickly ahead against Fulford Bay through Mark Willoughby.
Danny Midgeley then hit three goals, Craig Fletcher scored twice and, with Shaun Turner and James Anderson notching one apiece, Jubilee went 8-0 ahead before Fulford scored two late consolations.
Volunteer Reserves suffered their second league defeat of the season when going down 5-3 at home to Inland Revenue.
Richard Robinson gave Revenue an early lead after ten minutes.
Mark Lund doubled the lead 15 minutes later, but Kev Reyner pulled one back just before half time.
Kev Jackson then equalised for Volunteers two minutes into the second half, but within a minute Matthew Wright struck to restore Revenue's lead.
Lund gave Revenue a two-goal cushion on the hour, but Volunteers hit back again to reduce the arrears ten minutes later before that man Lund wrapped up the points with the last kick of the match to complete his hat-trick.
