IMPROVEMENTS to Clifton Moorgate are expected to be carried out from next week.
The work includes resurfacing, street lighting, improved drainage and new cycletracks.
A new footway and cycletrack will be built between Centurion Way and Wigginton Road.
Ray Chaplin, City of York Council's head of engineering consultancy, said: "The opportunity is also being taken to resurface a section of Clifton Moorgate which is beginning to deteriorate.
"We will also provide new lighting and drainage, which has previously been lacking on this length of road."
The work will start on Monday and is expected to take about ten weeks to complete. Temporary traffic lights will be put in place during working hours, which should be between 8am and 6pm on weekdays.
A three-day road closure will be needed for resurfacing work, which is expected to take place in March.
