IT is five years since Ford launched its Puma coupe, and now its reign is coming to an end.

But it is not bowing out entirely, in its place is the Puma Thunder, a limited edition model priced at £13,995. Only 2,000 models will be available, based on the 1.7-litre model.

Equipment includes leather trim, grey or silver paintwork, 15-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, air conditioning, and a luxury pack that includes power heated door mirrors, heated front screen and a six-disc multi CD player.

The Puma's 1.7-litre engine was co-developed with Yamaha, and although intended as a low volume niche product, Ford has sold more than 45,000 Pumas in the United Kingdom alone, double its original estimate.

There have been various derivatives of the coupe including 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre models.
