Clifton Ladies scored a good 7-2 away win over Riverside in ladies division one of the York Badminton League.
Gerry Screeton and Karen Broster set the standard for Clifton with three straight wins for 90-34. Julie Harrington and Ann Casper put in the best Riverside display, being rewarded with a nine and 13 win over Melanie Knowles and Shelagh Barker.
University Students Men's 'A' Team were rarely troubled in scoring a 9-0 home win at the Campus Sports Centre in men's division one. Mike Jones and James Croall took three straight wins for a return of 90-26.
Selby Jubilee were good value for a 6-3 away win over University Students 'B' in men's two. Sam Gardner and Simon Croall took three student wins for 94-54, but Roy Cannon and Andy Hatfield sealed the Jubilee win with a three and ten victory over Sam Neilson and Ben Spedding.
Pocklington visited Fulfordgate in men's division three and won 8-1 after playing some strong, attacking badminton. Kevin Chidlow and Barry Johnson took the best Pocklington return with 90-22, whilst Gary Hal and Mat Hobman took the home consolation with an 11-15, 15-12, 15-13 over Chris Kunkel and Howard Johnson.
University Students 'A' completed the 2001 part of the season with wins over Rowntree 'A' (9-0), and Clifton 'A' (5-4). Mike Jones and Sue Cooper took maximums in both matches for a six rubber total of 192-109, this included the match-winning eighth in the Clifton match where they beat Phil Sinton and Selagh Barker seven and two.
Drax 'A' won 7-2 in what looked like a tricky away fixture at Clifton 'A' in mixed division one. Scott Bradley and Gayle Bradley put in one of their best displays this season to win all three rubbers in straight sets for a return of 90-64. Clifton's Karen Broster and Daniel Woolfson were rewarded for their efforts in taking a Clifton point with a 15-10, 6-15, 15-6 over Phil Brunyard and Julie Smyth.
Clifton 'B' travelled to Riverside and scored a rare win with a 6-3 victory. Architects of the Clifton success were Kevin Davison and Lorraine Ellis who took all their rubbers for a total of 90-51.
Knavesmire 'A' put in a strong display away at Millthorpe to record an 8-1 win in mixed two. Ann Hopwood and Andy Limbert top scored for Knavesmire with three wins for 105-59, which included an 11 and 13 win over Sam Watson and Ann Casper who took Millthorpe's consolation.
Huntington 'A' were in top form despatching visitors Selby 77 by a 7-2 margin. Paul Moisley and Angela Hobman were the pick of the home pairs with three wins for 98-51, while Selby's Alan Hearn and Alison Dinsdale were rewarded for their efforts with an 8-15, 15-5, 17-14 over Bev Tebbutt and Alastair Jewison.
Shepherds visited Drax 'C' in mixed three and won 5-4. Dennis Bradley and Angie Spivey took three Drax wins in a great display, but Lisa Metcalfe and Sean Ogley sealed the Shepherd win with an 11-15, 15-6, 15-11 over Mike Ross and Pat Gregory.
Drax 'E' entertained Fulfordgate 'B' in mixed five and played well to record a 6-3 win. Shaun Firth and Linda Johnson made the difference with three Drax wins for 103-72, while Peter and Anita Wilkinson took two Fulfordgate wins but lost out six and 12 to Johnson and Firth.
Fulfordgate 'B' suffered a further reverse when they visited Huntington 'B' and lost out 9-0. Keith Nicholson and Marie I'Anson topped the home returns with three straight wins for 90-36.
Selby Jubilee 'C' hit good home form to record an 8-1 win over Terry's in mixed six. Jubilee's Lynn Dawson and Francis Milliojevic top scored with three straight wins for 90-31, Terry's consolation was taken by Karen Thompson and John Maddison who beat Alex Bush and Sean McDermott 8-15, 15-11, 15-13.
