LIFE'S a beach - and then you celebrate New Year's Eve on one.
The Antipodean licensees of a York pub waved goodbye to the old year by bringing a touch of home to the festive celebrations.
Australian sibling team Paul and Georgia Clarey, of Lawrence Street's Rose and Crown, staged a beach party to herald in the New Year.
More than four tons of sand were laid out in the pub, and deck chairs were brought in for customers wearing bikinis and wet suits.
"It 'shore' was a good night," said Paul the next day.
"People loved the novelty and had a great time tasting the Australian New Year."
