YORK-based rail firm GNER is to cut single fares across its network to as little as £5 from today.
More than 200,000 single tickets will be on sale until January 23 for travel anywhere on its services for £5, £10 and £15.
Tickets must be booked at least seven days ahead, and the lowest fares will be available for travel on the least busy trains.
The last day for travel will be February 14.
GNER chief operating officer Jonathan Metcalfe said: "We hope that fantastic fares at January sale prices will help to encourage people to treat themselves to a day trip or short break between New Year and Valentine's Day."
Tickets will be available for travel on all GNER services and the price passengers pay for a single journey will depend on the time of travel.
"Since the start of our recovery campaign in spring 2001 to encourage passengers to return to the railways and to boost tourism, we have offered more than half a million seats at substantially reduced prices," added Mr Metcalfe.
