Malton and Norton RUFC are now awaiting a decision from the Rugby Football Union after visitors Barnsley refused to play their Yorkshire Three game.
Barnsley arrived at The Gannock on Saturday for the clash on a pitch which the match referee deemed 'perfectly playable'.
That decision was greeted with agreement by Malton and Norton, who were eager to play the tie. However, the Barnsley party refused to play on the pitch.
Said Malton and Norton secretary Bill Laidler: "They (Barnsley) thought the pitch was too hard.
"But having said that our third team then went on to play Scarborough IIIs on the same pitch and there were no problems with it at all.
"We were perfecly willing to play the game, but Barnsley did not want to play.
"So now it's gone to the RFU to make a decision on what happens next."
The irony is that the match had just the week before been frozen off.
Despite the festive holiday spell clubs were informed that under league rules any postponed games had to be played on the first available Saturday.
