FOR the many who have received honours, the New Year has certainly got off to a promising start. Among them is Ron Cooke, who receives a knighthood. This is well-deserved recognition of Sir Ron's work guiding York University to its position among the academic elite.
Denise Howard, a champion of York's vital tourism sector, sees her labours rewarded too, with an MBE. And there are more local names who can look forward to a trip to Buckingham Palace in 2002 with justified pride and satisfaction. Congratulations to them all.
