New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club gained a magnificent 89-60 win, with all four rinks winning, to secure the maximum 12 points at stake against Ryedale in the Yorkshire Over 55s League.
Playing at New Earswick, Ken Harrison, Alf Lewis, Barry Matthews and Ray Bowman made certain of their game when they scored eight shots in the last three ends to win 27-11.
Ray Clark, John Allan, Alistair Sugden and Dennis Ellis were left biting their nails as their opponents came back from 18-14 down to within one shot going into the last end.
Fortunately, it was Clark's team who gained the vital shot to give the home side a 19-17 victory.
Playing at Ryedale, Bob Edwards, Barry Harrison, Mick Stannard and Joe Cooper were in a similarly close game after losing the first five ends to singles, then tying the scores at 5-5 four ends later.
They led 14-10 after 18 ends only to see the home team score a further three shots over the following two ends but the allotted time had run out, giving Edwards' rink the point.
In the other rink, Bob Howland, Ken Plowman, Ron Wood and Harry Rhodes scored three fives on the their way to an easy 29-19 win.
This victory moved New Earswick to third place in their group, 10.5 points behind the leaders York and District.
