YORK air enthusiast Andy Jenkins has revealed his New Year's resolution - to clear his name.

Andy, 32, of Barkston Avenue, Acomb, has told the Evening Press that he is determined to return to Greece and prove his innocence.

He was arrested on November 8 along with 11 other Britons and two Dutch plane-spotters, at an air base in Kalamata, southern Greece.

The Greeks accused the group of espionage. They spent 37 days in jail before finally being freed on bail.

Authorities reduced the charge to one of illegally collecting information but told the group it must return to Greece for trial in the spring.

Reports have suggested the Greeks may let the charges slide. But today Andy said he would definitely return to the Aegean and overturn the case.

"When I came back home there was euphoria. Everything now is getting back to normal," he said.

"It is still a bit bewildering. After all, Greece was a country we were invited to go to. I will return in the spring for the hearing. I don't have a problem with going to Greece. We will go back to clear our names, if there is any justice.

"I have had a few days to think about things and I want to go back. I am pretty sore about the whole thing.

"I feel a bit aggrieved over the situation and there are three or four others who feel the same way. I am eager to go back."

After spending Christmas with his family, something he dared not contemplate while in prison in Nafplion, Andy said he felt his Greek experience had changed him.

"My life has certainly changed since I came back from Greece," he added. "I don't think I will change as I am from day-to-day, but I suppose what happened has affected me in a small way.

"Now I am looking forward to getting back to Greece in the spring."
