STAFF at a Clifton Moor shop have been joining in the fundraising for Jamie's Have A Heart Appeal.

Workers at Allders home furnishings store have raised more than £100 for the appeal after staff donated money in memory of Jamie instead of sending one another Christmas cards.

Margaret Marsden, who organised the event at the store, said: "We have all been affected by Jamie's death and we felt this was something we could do to help the appeal.

"My daughter Sarah went to school with Jamie and she and all her friends have been affected by his death.

"We are all glad to be able to help an appeal for people with heart conditions and show our support for the Bucknell family."

Jamie's Have A Heart Appeal, which was set-up by the Evening Press three weeks ago, has now reached £7,000.

The 14-year-old Huntington School pupil collapsed and died in school on November 12. His death has caused a public outpouring of emotion and his family are fully supporting our appeal.

His mother, Debbie, said: "We can't believe how much people have given for Jamie. It's amazing what people are doing."

The appeal, in memory of Jamie, aims to raise £7,500 to buy 12 portable heart monitors for York District Hospital. The monitors, which record vital information, can be taken home by a patient suffering with a heart irregularity.

If you are organising any fundraising activities contact Emma Harrison, Health Reporter, or Richard Edwards in the Evening Press newsroom, telephone 01904 653051, or email on emma.harrison@ycp.co.uk or richard.edwards@ycp.co.uk.

Donations should be sent to either reporter and money will be paid into a special bank account set up for the appeal. Cheques should be made out to Jamie's Have A Heart Appeal.
