THE Students won the battle of the University when they beat the Staff 8-1 in ladies division one of the York Badminton League.
Ros Ellis and Sue Cooper starred for the Students with three wins for 102-52, while Sally Locker and Lynn Terry picked up the Staff consolation with an 8-15 15-13 15-11 over Caroline Grubb and Heather Turner.
IT Sports beat a game Riverside 7-2 in men's division one.
Paul Hardcastle and Stuart Fieldhouse top-scored for IT with three wins for 90-46, including a four and 11 over Craig Dobson, and Ian McKinlay, who took both away points.
The University Student men's 'B' team visited Selby 77 in men's two and were good value for a 7-2 win.
Simon Croall and Sam Garner topped the Student averages with 90-34, while Dave Hearn and Rob Overall played well for Selby to record one success.
RI Tuesday/Thursday 'B' and Pocklington fought out a close men's three battle with visitors Pocklington just emerging 5-4 winners.
Barry Johnson and Matt Burrows took the match-winning maximum with three wins for 111-85. This included a 15-5 9-15 15-6 victory over Brian Williams and Dave Thompson, who took two Institute wins.
The Institute's next match saw them visit Drax 'B' and win 5-4 after Drax could only field two pairs.
Ian Sanderson and Barry Woodward took the winning rubber with a nine and six over Adam Prescott and Richard Summers.
York RI scored a comprehensive 9-0 home win over Clifton 'B' in mixed one. Paul Turner and Nicola Coggins topped the Institute averages with three straight wins for 90-27.
Huntington 'A' scored a ninth rubber 5-4 home win over Knavesmire 'A' in mixed two.
Mark Hopwood and Heather Richardson took two Knavesmire wins in a good display, but Huntington took the win bonus points when Paul Moisley and Angela Hobman beat Dave Brogden and Liz Swallow 0 and 3.
Selby Jubilee 'A's good run came to an end when they entertained Drax 'C' and lost 3-6.
Dennis Bradley and Angie Spivey were the pick of the Drax pairs with three wins for a return of 102-71.
Shepherd's scored an 8-1 home win over Rowntrees in mixed three. Dave Simpson and Chiara Secchi topped the home returns with 90-37, while Lynn Lyall and Phil Pearce took the confectionery consolation with a 17-16 15-13 win over Claire McQuaid and Paul Nichol.
Easingwold won a tight match away at Clifton 'C'.
The 5-4 scoreline was down to the excellent form of Linda and Robert Dallinson, who took three wins for 103-62, which included the match-winner where they beat Ronnie Davison and Stuart Robertson 11-15 15-6 17-14.
Market Weighton won two mixed division five matches - a 6-3 over Drax 'E', followed by a 5-4 over Fulfordgate 'B'.
John Warburton and Sue Smith were Weighton's match-winners in the Drax game, winning all three in straight sets for 92-44.
Selby Jubilee 'C' scored an 8-1 home win over Pocklington 'C' in mixed division six.
Francis Milliojevic and Lynn Dawson took the best Jubilee figures with three wins for 102-57. W Arnold and H Johnson took the Pocklington consolation with a 13 and 9 win over Alex Bush and Sean McDermott.
