YORK'S most famous festive face today gave his support to Jamie's Have A Heart Appeal.
Theatre Royal pantomime dame Berwick Kaler described the appeal as "something that really could help change people's lives".
He said: "I am very pleased to give my support to Jamie's Have A Heart Appeal.
"It is great that the people of York have been touched enough by it to help raise more than £6,500 so quickly.
"Please keep the donations coming so the last £1,000 can be raised.
"The sooner the portable heart monitors are bought, brought into service and start helping people the better."
The appeal was launched in memory of 14-year-old Strensall boy Jamie Bucknell, who collapsed and died in Huntington School last month.
It is aiming to raise £7,500 to buy 12 new portable heart monitors, to be used in York District Hospital.
The monitors are taken home by people with heart conditions, who can use them to collect data about their condition.
If you would like to make a donation to the appeal, or are organising a fundraising event, ring reporter Richard Edwards or health reporter Emma Harrison on 01904 653051, or email richard.edwards@ycp.co.uk or use the link above. Cheques should be made payable to Jamie's Have A Heart Appeal".
