THIS thought-provoking book raises more questions than it answers. Haunted Land takes us from pre-history to modern times, from Shamanism, through the wild hunt of Europe, to witches, werewolves and vampires and ends with road ghosts, spectral figures and phantom hitchhikers.

The book attempts to give the reader a glimpse of how the world was perceived by earlier races and the marks left on civilisation today, giving location information on corpse roads, spirit paths, towns and villages haunted through the ages.

Written in narrative style, this book is easily readable, eye-witnesses' ghost encounters are enthralling and the thought processes are nicely laid out, encouraging us to question our perception of reality.

When I reached the final chapters, which brought in the collective unconscious, archetypes, quantum physics and consciousness studies, my brain frequently hurt and I found myself putting the book down. Still, worth a read.
