JAMIE'S heart appeal is now well on its way to reaching the target of £7,500 to buy 12 portable heart monitors for York District Hospital.
This week alone the Evening Press has received donations ranging from £2 to £500.
A collection at the funeral of ex-Press man Pete Smallwood raised hundreds of pounds for the appeal.
His widow, Margaret, of Heslington, said: "It just felt right to raise the money for a heart charity - and what better than to give to Jamie's heart appeal?"
Also this week, the Purey Cust Trust has donated £325 and New Earswick Primary School has sent a donation from its Christmas productions.
These donations are matched by dozens of private cheques from people all over the city, neighbours, friends and strangers, who have been touched by Jamie Bucknell's story.
Jamie's dad, Keith, said: "It has been wonderful the amount of response that Jamie's appeal has created among people in York.
"We are so grateful for everyone's support."
Jamie, a 14-year-old Huntington School pupil, collapsed and died in school on November 12. His death has caused a public outpouring of emotion and his family is fully supporting our appeal.
If you are organising any fundraising activities, phone Health Reporter Emma Harrison, or Richard Edwards, in the Evening Press newsroom, on 01904 653051, or email on emma.harrison@ycp.co.uk or richard.edwards@ycp.co.uk.
Donations should be sent to either reporter, to be paid into a special bank account set up for the appeal. Cheques should be made out to Jamie's Have a Heart Appeal.
