THE ASDA supermarket at Monks Cross, York, has been continuing to help the Evening Press's appeal in memory of Huntington schoolboy Jamie Bucknell.
Last weekend pensioner Irene Whitely raffled a Christmas hamper in the foyer of the store and managed to raise nearly £120 for Jamie's Have A Heart Appeal.
Mrs Whitely, of Montrose Avenue, York, who last week donated £100 to the appeal after collecting from her neighbours, has been helping the appeal after being reduced to tears by reading the story of Jamie and his family in the Evening Press.
She said: "I just want to do what I can to help raise the money to buy these heart monitors in memory of Jamie."
Jamie's Have A Heart Appeal has now raised more than £6,000.
The 14-year-old Huntington School pupil collapsed and died in school on November 12.
His death caused a public outpouring of emotion and his family is supporting the effort to raise £7,500 to buy 12 portable heart monitors for York District Hospital. The monitors can be taken home by patients with a heart irregularity.
If you are organising any fundraising activities contact Emma Harrison, health reporter, or Richard Edwards in the Evening Press newsroom on 01904 653051. Or email on emma.harrison@ycp.co.uk or richard.edwards@ycp.co.uk.
Donations should be sent to either reporter and it will be paid into a special bank account set up for the appeal. Cheques should be made out to Jamie's Have A Heart Appeal.
