YOUNGSTERS in York have being spreading a little of Christmas cheer by helping to make December shopping a bit more bearable.
A special night was set aside at Asda, Monks Cross, for people with disabilities and their carers, and on hand to help were boys from the 1st Clifton Sea Scouts Pacific and Atlantic Cub packs, all aged between eight and ten.
They helped by pushing wheelchairs, getting objects off shelves and packing the shopping bags.
Akela Joy Turner said: "The district commissioner asked if we wanted to do it, and the boys really enjoyed themselves.
"It'll go towards their activity badges and part of their Cub Scout Adventure Award for helping others, where they have to carry out a special turn for people who need help, using extra time and effort."
