DAVID Blunkett is right to reform. The police should accept his proposals for specials and street wardens.
Present 'priority' policing does a reasonable job on murder and shoplifting. But too many offences are at the bottom of the police priority league.
The present system only gives partial policing.
Some elderly people stay behind locked doors; afraid to venture out after dark.
Government ministers have been subjected to the electoral process, chief constables have not, so the police should not try to block Mr Blunkett's reforms.
