YORK and North Yorkshire were today given £29 million of government cash to pay for small-scale transport improvements across the county.
The grant can be used for everything from bus and cycle lanes to park and ride schemes, traffic calming and better information for
passengers.
It will help local councils to implement their local transport plans, which were presented to the Department of Transport in summer 2000.
Transport minister John Spellar said North Yorkshire County Council would receive £22.86 million next year for small-scale schemes, £200,000 more than in the current financial year.
City of York Council gets £6.15million, a hike of £600,000.
The overall national settlement has grown from £1.36 billion last year to £1.58 billion, as the government implements its ten-year transport plan.
