York RI 'A' comfortably defeated Rose Forgrove 'A' 7-3 in the Woodhouse Cup.
York heavily out-graded their opponents and wrapped up the expected easy win.
Gawain Jones was promoted to board one where he drew and David Adams, the usual top board, played Minster Inn's Mark White and also drew.
York's wins came from Paul Townsend, David Wise, Detlef Plump, Tony Slinger, and Paul Hop-wood. Further draws came from Jon Griffith and Paul Johnson.
York RI 'B' played Rose Forgrove 'B' and escaped with a draw.
Two early defeats and a draw on top board from Barry Marshall meant York needed 3 points from the final five games.
One defeat and wins from Herbert Lockwood, Laurence Cornhill and Norman Andrews followed and the match was decided on the last game to finish, where Tim Turner agreed a draw and so the match ended all square.
York RI 'C' had a 4-3 win over Alwoodley in the Silver Rook.
York's top boards did the damage with Richard Hardy, David Findlay and Eric Winn winning. Draws from Ewen Cameron, Sri Sriharan and Mick Beavers took them to victory
York RI 'D' produced the result of the day, also in the Silver Rook by defeating Netherton 'A' 5-3.
Graham Marshall had an excellent draw on board one but the key was the success of the bottom boards. Aaron Barker drew on board four but Bill Fulton, Chris Somerville, Rodney Mitchinson and young Jonathon Burr won on boards five to eight.
In the York Evening League divison one, Lady Anne Middleton One defeated Whippersnappers 5-1 with wins from Tony Slinger, John Cawston, Colin Snowball and Neville Pearce.
There were, however, excellent performances from Whippersnap-pers' Fahad Yousif, who drew on board two with Jon Griffith, and Tom Anderson, who drew on board three with Tim Turner.
LAM II won the top-of-the-table clash with Conquerors 4-2.
John Knowles, Lee Wilson and Toby Conyers-Kelly all quickly won for LAM II but in reply Owen Robson won and Tom Anderson was well on his way to victory, so the match hinged on the top board game between Richard Hardy and James Miers. In a tense finale, Miers won to give LAM the match.
Shepherds II beat Nowhere Men 3-1 in division two with both teams defaulting board four when neither player turner up.
Wins from Herbert Lockwood, David Latimer and Stuart Acton were sufficient for Shepherds II.
Roger Hall won for Nowhere Men and in a sporting gesture No-where Men's Keith Ellerby agreed a draw with Don Glasgow, just as Glasgow's flag was about to fall.
