THE Archbishop of York has emerged as one of the most frugal of the Church of England's senior clergy in a report published to today.
Dr David Hope is among the most economical of the 114 clergymen analysed in the Bishops' Office and Working Costs report. The report shows that only £39,748 was spent by him on individual working costs, compared to the £94,152 spent by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr George Carey, or the £40,592 spent by the Bishop of London, the Right Rev Richard Chartres.
The report took two years to complete, and follows a review on bishops' costs, commissioned by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
