Mr Jeffrey (Letters, December 4) complains about an elderly couple writing to you in horror after discovering junkies having sex in the porch at St Wilfrids. He says there is nothing wrong with "sex, drugs and rock and roll" particularly in churches.
The Catholic church is certainly aware of people like Mr Jeffrey and ranks them on a level with wars, disease and other things the world would be better off without.
Presumably Mr Jeffrey would approve of Sunday morning sex in the Minster with a bit of pot smoking thrown in afterwards.
No doubt Canon Ryan of St Wilfrids will already have contacted you but I would still like to register my disapproval that you even print letters like those from Mr Jeffrey.

...REGARDING the remarks of your correspondent Colin S Jeffrey about catholic religion failing to prepare people for the harsh facts of life.
I would beg to differ. The church does tell people about sin and evil but it can hardly be expected to tell us that one day we will come across someone having sex in a church. Hardly an everyday experience is it?
Furthermore, I would point out that a church is still a church, empty or otherwise.
