YORK Groves climbed the Pennine League division four table thanks to a 16-4 victory over Siddall 'B'.
Groves put aside a recent struggle for form with a hard-working win in which captain Paul Scott and Andy Starkey shone, supported by John Thompson.
The Terriers began well with fluent ball handling and were rewarded as Nigel Ridsdale evaded several defenders to power over for a fine try.
Groves continued to use pace and the width of the pitch to go further ahead as Scott sent John Rushworth on a blistering run to touch down. Scrum-half Thompson converted superbly.
Groves' approach play was excellent but lost possession let the Terriers down with the line at their mercy.
Then a lapse in the defence allowed Siddal to notch a try to make it 10-6 at the break.
On the restart the Halifax-based side pressed hard but Groves' defence held out and gradually the Terriers regained the upper hand.
The hosts went further ahead with a Thompson penalty and, after being thwarted by stubborn defence, they got their final try as the inspirational Scott sent Thompson on a 50-yard dash to the line.
