LEGAL action against litter droppers should be stepped up, according to York residents.
A drop-in session with city councillors revealed people believe City of York Council should prosecute offenders, and launch a campaign to increase awareness.
The session invited members of the public to express their views following concern that cleaning standards had dropped. They will be considered by a special scrutiny committee set up to study the issue.
Council scrutiny officer Brian Moran said: "We had a really good response to the drop-in session, with residents raising a whole range of issues including litter near schools and problems associated with back lanes and local shops."
The scrutiny board will meet again on Wednesday.
