The most spectacular car crashes ever seen on the PlayStation 2 are to be found on this jaw-dropping game.
You will find yourself racing round very busy roads at quite ridiculous speeds, veering from side to side and ducking through the gap in traffic at the last moment. But one mistake and... POOM! You'll find yourself doing cartwheels, leaving a trail of broken glass and broken cars in your wake.
You might think the sensible driver might steer clear of trouble to make sure they get through, but near misses and driving on the wrong side of the road are rewarded with an adrenaline boost. Get your adrenaline high enough and you can activate a burnout, an extra jolt of speed that can prove the difference between beating your rivals or watching them disappear into the distance as you just fail to make a checkpoint.
It may sound perverse, but it can be truly enjoyable pulling off the kind of manoeuvres that mortal man dare not attempt in real life, and for that Burnout deserves many plaudits.
