MUSEUMS always should have been free - and so the Government's abolition of entry charges was welcome.
In the light of this, the decision by the National Railway Museum to re-introduce charges during next February's half term for a Thomas The Tank Engine event seems extraordinary, and a little cynical.
Visitors expecting to enter for free will find that the charges have suddenly been re-imposed. This is hardly encouraging.
