ONE of the traditions of Christmas is hearing the Salvation Army band play carols. During this month, our bands will be busy visiting hospitals, nursing homes and town centres, bringing the joy of Christmas to thousands of people.
Behind the music, however, the Salvation Army will be working hard to make a real difference in the lives of people for whom Christmas is not such a joyous time. Throughout the area, we will seek to bring homeless people off the streets and into our centres.
We will be running day centres to bring the warmth of companionship to older people living alone; and serving 1,400 lunches a week to elderly, unemployed and disabled people. We will be distributing food parcels, furniture and clothing to people in need; and giving toys to children who would otherwise have nothing at Christmas.
In the hands of the Salvation Army, your small change can make a big difference and with your generous support, there is so much we can do to help people who are facing hardship and unhappiness at this time of year.
We are grateful for the money so many people give us when they hear the bands play. Anyone who would also like to make a direct donation, made payable to 'The Salvation Army', should send their contribution to 1 Cadman Court, Hanley Road, Morley, Leeds, LS27 0RX.
Mr Martin Wileman,
Divisional Director for Public Relations,
The Salvation Army Yorkshire Division, Leeds.
