TIME will be called for the last time at the Frog Hall pub in January.
Landlord Wayne Allan has handed in his notice and the York pub will close down - to be replaced later in the year by a drive-through McDonalds and a video store.
Despite a campaign by regulars, owner Enterprise Inns is selling the pub to developers Dransfield Properties.
Managing director Philip Wilson said: "We are hoping to see planning permission granted in January, and then we can begin work by Easter. "It is regrettable that the Frog Hall has had to close but it is inevitable if the area is to be regenerated."
He said that the only stumbling block in the development of the area is decontamination of the former gas works - it will cost almost £1million to make the site safe for development.
Mr Allan will be taking over the Melbourne pub, in Cemetery Road, next month.
"It is the end of an era, and it is a shame, but I have two small kids to look after and it has been made clear the pub is to be sold." he said.
