THE proposed public consultation on the A64 problem (November 24) is not the answer for residents in Rillington.
A proposal has been on the Minister's table for months, and a decision on the north/south Rillington by-pass is still awaited after a recent consultation by the Highways Agency. Have they forgotten?
Rillington is an important jewel - or thorn - in any A64 consultation, and thanks to the continued pressure by Coun Murray Naylor and Ryedale MP John Greenway the frustrating problem is of daily concern and a local focus.
Residents now liken the A64 through Rillington to being under the aircraft flightpath into Heathrow. In both scenarios, residents' lifestyles are ignored by the Highway Agency. Economic prosperity is their concern.
If December is still the season of goodwill perhaps the Minister will respond before the year end on both issues, Rillington by-pass and then the A64.
