PROPERTY worth thousands of pounds has been stolen in a recent spate of thefts from vehicles in York.
Police are warning motorists to be on their guard following a string of car break-ins across the city.
A case containing 200 compact discs was stolen from a Peugeot 405 parked in Saddlers Close, Huntington, after a window was smashed.
Thieves broke into a Vauxhall car in Main Street, Knapton, and stole a Gateway laptop computer and a Sony projector.
Power tools and a generator worth more than £1,000 were stolen when thieves broke into a van in Stratford Way, Huntington.
A Suzuki car, parked in Chestnut Grove, New Earswick, was broken into and 24 compact discs were stolen.
Thieves took a Goodmans compact disc player and 24 compact discs when they broke into a Ford Escort in Rawcliffe Lane, York.
A Nike rucksack, the front of a car compact disc player and a house key were stolen from a Mini parked in the Castle car park in York.
Vehicles in The Crossway, Brownlow Street, and Station Avenue, New Earswick, were also targeted.
A Citroen Xantia car, registration M173DHR, was stolen from Bell House Way, Foxwood, a white Honda Express moped, registration J182OVY, was stolen from Whernside Avenue, Burnholme, and a yellow Suzuki TR50 moped, registration S529LUG, was stolen from a garage in Wains Road, Dringhouses.
Police advise people not to leave valuables in their vehicle, to park in a well-lit spot at night and to fit an alarm and immobiliser.
