LOOKING almost exactly like the TV cartoon upon which it is based, this Batman title manages to rise above the sometimes average nature of its gameplay to become quite addictive.

Principally, it is a platform game, with you running and jumping around the cityscape of Gotham, and handling bigger jumps with the assistance of your batgrapple or stretching your cape taut.

However, the platform sections of the game are broken up by other levels in which you are piloting the batplane in pursuit of Mr Freeze, or speeding along in the batmobile on the heels of one of Poison Ivy's henchmen.

The plot is suitably noir, too, with all the trouble being traced back to Harley Quinn.

With graphics to adore (even if they sometimes have the odd problem with collision detection, which can leave people floating in mid-air), this could have been a much better title.

However, the humdrum nature of the bulk of the game lets it down, and jumping can be very imprecise, which leads to frustration as you plummet to your doom for the umpteenth time.

Still, it's fun enough to bring you back until you complete the game.
