RYEDALE School put in a superb battling display to take the Area Under 15s Hockey Tournament.
The competition was originally going to be played on the school's own pitch, but wet weather forced it to be moved to the artificial pitches at Ryedale Leisure Centre.
Despite this change, and having to field two players from younger age groups, Ryedale won their opening two games against Whitby and Pindar by the odd goal.
This set up a thrilling finale against the experienced Scarborough College, who had also won their first two games.
A goal halfway through the first half from Maria Hackett, backed up by some terrific defending, sealed the tie - and the title - in Ryedale's favour.
