YORK Wasps have stepped into help the Army Rugby League team ahead of their Challenge Cup first round clash against Saddleworth Rangers on Saturday.

The Army had approached to club for help with coaching at varying points during the season, and Wasps, who start their Northern Ford Premiership campaign against Whitehaven on Sunday, have offered them the services of their own top man, Leo Epifania.

The 36-year-old Australian, who only arrived at Wasps little more than three weeks ago, has agreed to coach the might of the military ahead of important games.

Epifania met with the Army team for the first time today, with further sessions planned for tomorrow and Friday, while on Saturday he will give the pre-match team talk.

However, should the Army reach the third round of the competition and draw Wasps, then Epifania will step back to concentrate on York.

Wasps chief executive Ann Garvey said: "Leo has agreed to do it for their important matches, starting this week, and he will do it as long as it doesn't interfere with anything at Wasps."
