Round three of the hotly contested Yorkshire Winter League saw a field of 80 battling gale-force winds on an exposed Ouse at Hunters Lodge and Widdington.
Given the conditions it was a good match with roach widespread and 4lb needed to top every section. Gerry Eastwood (Castleford) topped an otherwise roach-dominated affair with three slabs from the usual peg 220 at Hunter Lodge bungalows. Fishing mid river with a caster feeder and worm the trio scaled 14lb 11oz.
Craig Turbitt (Wibsey Angling) had the best roach catch with 9lb 11oz from peg 188 below the Willow Garth. Pole and maggot at 12 metres did the job with a switch to straight lead when the winds became too strong.
Others: Dave Pollitt (Hirst Tackle A) 9-5-0; Geoff Wilmore (Armley Angling) 7-5-0; Tim Harrison (Anglers World) 7-4-0; John Mills (Hirst TackleA) 6-13-0.
Hirst Tackle won on the day with a good score of 59 points ahead of Anglers World on 48 and Wibsey Angling with 46.
Despite slipping to second on the day Anglers World hold on to a slender one-point advantage over Hirst Tackle.
Wibsey are poised a further point adrift should either of the top two slip up.
Mick Addinall (Spectrum) topped Sunday's 30-peg open at Carpvale despite losing a number of fish from known snag pit peg 3.
His winning bag of 53lb comprised of 15 carp on pole and meat.
Others: Simon Shephard (Leeds) 32-0-0, Dave Wright (Armley Angling) 26-10-0, Dave Maddison (York) 23-8-0.
It was peg 22 that did the damage again at Raker Lakes where it once again topped Sunday's 26 pegger on Horseshoe Lake.
Lucky drawer was Eddie Preston (Leeds) who went on to win with 34lb 14oz. Pole and maggot at 13 metres brought him a number of carp to 3lb.
Paul Kozyra (Anglers Corner) had a cracking net of 31lb 11oz for second, which included 25lb of prime roach and skimmers taken on pole and maggot over chopped worm from peg 18.
Others: Bob Coates (Leeds) 21-0-0; Charlie Chadwick (Hull Works) 13-5-0.
The opening round of the York Tackle Winter League proved a success for the 30-strong field at Elvington Lake.
Brian Clay (Otley) scored an easy win with 20lb 4oz thanks to a brace of carp taken on pole and meat, his best fish scaled 14lb 12oz. The rest of the field had silver fish taken largely on pole and bloodworm.
Vaughan Henderson (Stamford Bridge) led the chasing pack, which included his wife in fourth place, with 7lb 8oz.
Others: Paul Thompson (York Tackle) 6-2-0; Anthea Henderson (Stamford Bridge) 5-4-0.
Dean Smith (Van den Eynde Goole) was a runaway winner of Sunday's 55-pegger on Maple Lake at the Oaks with 52lb 8oz. Drawn on peg 64 he worked with pole and maggot at 13 metres for an all carp net with fish to 3lb.
Chris Vanderkamp (Sensas Garbolino) led the usual glut of Lancastrian raiders with 39lb 8oz of small carp to pole and maggot at 12 metres from peg 55.
Others: Roger Holmes (MAP Elton) 35-14-0; Ian Exley ( Middy Teams Dons) 31-0-0; Gareth Drury (Elton Tackle) 30-0-0; Danny McGuire (Preston Innovations) and John Allerton (Tricast Whizzo) both 26-14-0.
