York College won the British Colleges North Eastern Region Tournament held at Silksworth Sports Centre, Sunderland on November 7 and have qualified for the British Colleges Finals which will be played on the weekend of April 12/13, 2002 in Swansea.
The team played five games against the following teams: South Tyneside (won 1-0), New College Durham (won 2-0), Prior Pursgrave (Teesside) (drew 0-0), Stockton 6th Form College (drew 0-0) and Teesside College (won 1-0). They won the competition on goal difference after drawing on points with Stockton 6th Form College - who have been winners for the last few years.
The York College squad is: Joanne Somers, Michelle Harker, Laura Eccles, Sarah Boorman, Vicky Blair, Leanne Hill, Holly Benson, Simone Layton, Claire Dick, Rebecca Fowler and Miriam Ellwood.
