CITY of York Ladies 3-3 drew at home to Cheshire side Winnington Park to end their run of defeats in the premier division of the North League.

York were able to field a near full-strength side for the first time this season and took the lead after ten minutes when captain Sally Sleightholme scored from Sally Powell's cross.

Winnington always looked dangerous in attack and equalised before Powell set up a second goal for Sleightholme.

Karen Howells made it 3-1 for York with a deflected shot after a penalty corner, only for Park to score again on half-time.

York conceded two penalty strokes soon after the break, Park equalising from the first and York 'keeper, Lynne Gowland, making a fine save from the next.

York were unfortunate not to take all the points when Sleightholme was twice narrowly wide with first-time efforts late on.

In division two of the Yorkshire League, City of York II lost 3-1 at home to Leeds University, Rachel Messias scoring York's goal, while in division six, City of York III won 2-1 at Sheffiled IV with goals from Abbie Hope-Irwin and Becky Copperthwaite.

In division seven, a young City of York IV lost 4-0 to a stronger and well-drilled York St John's College side.

Acomb Ladies I suffered their first defeat of the season when they went down 4-2 at Bingley Bees.

Acomb had early chances saved on the line but Bingley opened the scoring.

Acomb continued to press and from a second strike at a short corner captain Kerry Rafton bagged the equaliser.

Just before half-time Bingley regained the lead and although Acomb played the better hockey, Bingley slotted home two more goals.

In the last five minutes Acomb were awarded a penalty flick and Sally Kelsey slotted the ball home.

Acomb Ladies II recovered from the shock of conceding a goal in the opening minute against Halifax and Calder to win 2-1.

Wendy Watson equalised from a short corner scramble before half -time and Acomb went on to net the winner.

Tadcaster retained their place at the top of division three with a 4-0 victory over Halifax and Colder with goals by Sarah Pedder, Bec Cattle, Helen Stuart and Lucy McNamara.

Angela McMillan was Tadcaster's player of the match.

Nestle Rowntree Ladies ran riot in the Costcutter York and District ladies league, thrashing Dunnington 9-0 with goals by Jane Markland (4), J Moore (2), V Moore, C Carter and Sue Yoward.
