NORTH Yorkshire Police is facing a £4 million overspend on its budget, members of the police authority heard today.
Police pensions account for the majority of the projected overspend - £3.1 million - and the cost of policing major incidents is estimated to add between £500,000 to £900,000.
A report to the authority, meeting at Catterick Garrison, points out that if the York body-in-a-suitcase inquiry is a lengthy one, the estimated overspend on incidents would be at the upper end of the scale.
The position up to the end of October this year shows an overspend of £2,105,100 - £1,599,300 of pension costs and £640,800 due to major incidents.
