HAS the City of York Council won the Lottery?
I have watched in fascination as the bus shelter before the Poacher pub in Front Street, Acomb, did a neat 'side-step' with the central traffic bollard before Acomb Library. The bus shelter now blocks the view of the library garden and the bollard now faces the pub.
This ridiculous 'switch' caused much upheaval on a busy road at a time of disruption with major roadworks elsewhere in York. Worse, it is detrimental to the former pleasing open aspect of the library gardens which are central to Front Street. As for the cost and waste of public resources, one shudders to think of this.
Another 'extravaganza' is the proposed metalled cycle path to cut across the Hob Moor. Recently, I had the dubious pleasure of being at the planning committee which debated then gave consent to that project. A matter for concern is how the views of the many groups in opposition to the scheme, from footballers to environmentalists and historical conservationists to local people living near Hob Moor were all rejected.
