BEFORE you print more about how the city is doing so well on 'green' issues I offer two points: the first being the use of electricity from renewable sources to light the Christmas lights.
Unless you know something I don't, I think you will find that all electricity produced in this country for sale to consumers is fed into the National Grid and that only about ten per cent of it comes from renewable sources. I find it hard to believe that a wind farm in Wales is going to feed a separate cable all the way to York just to feed our city's Christmas lights so the claim that they are fed purely on electricity made from renewable energy sources is ridiculous.
I note also that RR Donnelly is making great claims to be 'green'. Perhaps you would like to ask the firm why it is I am not allowed to re-cycle my old copy of the Yellow Pages through the various paper re-cycling bins as a notice on the side states clearly 'No Yellow Pages'.
When I took this up with the council re-cycling officer he told me I should put it in the dustbin where no doubt it will go to our landfill site.
