KNAVESMIRE Harriers finished second in the Guisborough Three Tops fell race, just eight points behind North East champions Mandale Harriers.
Andy Bissell led the way for Knavesmire, finishing fifth in the nine mile race, which involved 1,200 feet of ascent and included climbing Roseberry Top.
Neil Strange, who the previous week won a bronze medal at the Yorkshire Veterans' Fell Championship at Eldwick, was 12th.
Dave Chippett, who came third in the Pinchthorpe Plod seven mile race. was 13th. Barry Atkinson finished Knavesmire's scoring team in 30th place.
The third race in the series is the 12.5 mile Guisborough Moors race on December 2.
Knavesmire's Beverley Hodgson won the women's veterans' 45 category race at Eldwick.
Chris Shouksmith, who was third in the women's 40 category at Edlwick, completed the Brampton to Carlisle ten mile road race in 65min 05sec.
