HOW disappointing - if not surprising - to see York backtracking on clear, unequivocal promises made at public meetings about Oaken Grove School.
Does anybody else remember councillors saying: "We have no plans to build on the site" and "the site will not be sold for development"?
More specifically, why is this plan to go to a meeting of the full council before Haxby residents are "consulted"? Sounds like it will all be signed and sealed by then.
Isn't there a conflict of interest in the council giving planning permission to build on land it owns and wants to sell?
If houses were built right next to the youth club, how long before the new owners object to the noise and disruption?
And, finally, what happened to the more imaginative opportunities this presented, such as moving the library to larger premises, or having a part-time police station in Haxby?
