TALENTED young sports stars from York schools have received their rewards.
The annual schools' presentation of awards at the Salvation Army Citadel, Gillygate saw trophies and city badges presented by the Lord Mayor of York, Coun Irene Waudby and the Sheriff of York, Janet Greenwood.
A total of 119 young athletes received their badges for seven different sports: cricket, cross-country, football, hockey, netball, rugby league and tennis.
Queen Margaret's School, Escrick, enjoyed a double celebration as two of their students picked up major awards.
Hockey player Mary Jane Simpson won the Parade Trophy for the outstanding school sportswomen and athlete Natalie Cooper took the Wilmott Trophy for the outstanding sixth-form sportswoman.
Simpson has represented North Yorkshire and played for the England Under-18 team.
Nestl Rowntree Athletics Club member Cooper, a long jumper and 200m runner, has competed at the English Scxhools Championships for the last two years and has represented North Yorkshire.
Middle distance runner David McQuarrie won the Woodcock Trophy for being the outstasnding sportsman and the TB Robinson Memorial Trophy went to Artchbishop Holgate's School for their commitment to football.
McQuarrie has won the York and North Yorkshire boys cross-country title in each of ther last four years, leading to his selection for England.
Teacher Mike Kilmartin, who has done a lot of work with youngsters in both cricket and rugby league, was awarded life membership of the York and District Schools Athletic Association.
