AS York's cycling paramedic has proved, pedal power is often the quickest way to get around the city.

But few envisioned a day when it would also be the fastest way to journey along the A64.

The cyclists are part of City of York Council's travel information service.

They will carry out regular assessments of the traffic flows, and these reports will go out regularly on the radio and the Internet.

Along with 28 new signs warning of the delays, this will help keep motorists better informed, a useful new weapon in the battle to reduce the jams.
