YORK RI came from behind to win this hard fought Yorkshire Two clash 17-8 against Northallerton at New Lane.
With both sides looking for two points to climb away from the wrong end of the league table, it was RI who took an early lead. Stuart Watson landing a tenth-minute penalty when Northallerton were penalised for killing the ball.
This lead was extended after 20 minutes, Watson kicking his second penalty.
This stung Northallerton into action and from a forward drive well into the home sides territory RI were penalised and Ed Bulman kicked the penalty to reduce the arrears.
Northallerton's bigger pack were causing RI problems particularly in the scrum and just before half-time from a scrum on the RI five-metre line, wing forward Tim Cornforth scrambled over.
The second half was only minutes old when RI regained the lead and again it was through Northallerton in-discipline. Twice they were penalised for killing the ball, when RI were attacking.
Watson kicked both penalties to give RI a 12-8 lead. RI eventually claimed victory when Northallerton lost the ball and Tim Barley hacked up for Tim Nash to win the leg race for the touchdown.
