Cavaliers 'A' and York University are joint leaders of York Evening Chess League after both teams won last week to maintain 100 per cent records after four games.
Cavaliers 'A' defeated Cavaliers 'B' 3-2 with wins from Jim Shemilt, Peter Cloudsdale and Richard Hardy.
Cavaliers 'B' wins came from Paul Johnson and Ewen Cameron and there was a draw between Owen Robson and John Goodfellow.
Cavaliers 'A' followed this by beating Lady Anne Middleton 1 in the next game by 4-2 with wins from their bottom four boards, Steve Huxley, Richard Hardy, Peter Cloudsdale and Owen Robson. Tony Slinger and Jon Griffith won for Lady Anne Middleton 1.
University scored a 4-1 win against Minster Inn with wins by Almas Ermekov, Scott Fraser, Matthew Palmer and Emanuele Libertini.
Adam Ismail won for Minster Inn and the game between Paul Anderson and Keith Kuan was drawn.
University then beat Cavaliers 'B' 5- with wins from Almas Ermekov, Mark Kambites, Richard Mounce, Matthew Palmer and Emanuele Libertine. Scott Fraser and David Findlay drew.
With all other teams having lost at least twice, the title appears to be between Cavaliers 'A' and University.
At the bottom end of the table Shepherds beat Kings 5-1 with wins from Nigel Dowker, Mick Rawlings, Don Glasgow, Bob Maltby and Ian Till. John Bennett won for Kings.
This result puts Kings bottom of the table after their defeat the previous week to Whippersnappers, whose wins came from Patrick Gower, Fahad Yousif, Arjuna Prithiviraj and Plowman. Kings' wins were from Colin Payne and John Lafferty.
Yorkshire have won their first match in the County Championship Under-125 competition, beating County Durham 7-5.
Four York players helped achieve this win. Neville Pearce, John Lafferty and Mick Beavers all drew and Owen Robson won.
The draw for the third round of the York RI Club Championship to be played on Tuesday, November 20, is:
Marshall v Rawlings; Hopwood v Barber; Hardy v Pearce; Johnson v Cameron; Robson v Anderson; Bennett v Griffith; Huxley v Gower; Baldwin v Lockwood; Mitchinson v Finburg; Lafferty v Oates; Fulton v Prithiviraj; Glasgow v Barker; Smowton v Yousif; Holliday v Conlin; Allis v Kirby.
