YORK'S Quaker schools are teaming up to tackle the horrors of war in their latest annual production together.
Performed by sixth form students from Bootham School and The Mount, the satirical Oh What A Lovely War runs from tomorrow until Saturday at the Bootham School Theatre.
The show is a satirical, musical work which highlights the contradictions of war, basing itself around the horror of the trenches in the First World War.
The cast work through a series of songs and routines, exploring the relations of those on the front line with those "back home".
Bootham's Richard Burton, who is directing the show jointly with The Mount's Margaret Hillier, said: "The play is funny, poignant, and as relevant today as it has ever been." The play was chosen before the war on terror began in Afghanistan, but the producers feel they have explored this "terrible irony" in the course of staging Oh What A Lovely War. Tickets are available from either school on 01904 623261.
There is no entry charge, but a collection will be taken at the end of each performance.
