Acomb beat Sheffield University Bankers III 1-0 despite being given the runaround for most of their Yorkshire League division two encounter.
In a tight first half, Acomb struggled to cope with Sheffield's fast flowing play and only through hard work did the defence of Baxter and Good keep them out.
Acomb had few chances, the best falling to Jamie Robinson, who after a fine solo run went round the 'keeper only to be forced wide and shoot into the side of the goal.
After the break, Acomb took the lead from a short corner swept home by Peter Hilton.
Sheffield put on the pressure in the last 20 minutes but Acomb held on to take the points and stay in the hunt for the second promotion spot.
Acomb II continued their undefeated record by winning 6-0 at Ben Rhydding VII.
