York City have gone continental by handing a Norwegian winger a week-long trial.
Roy Kenneth Larsson, who has played in Norway for Vuku and Helgaadal, contacted the Minstermen by e-mail asking for a trial as he was in the area and City chief Terry Dolan agreed to give him a chance.
Twenty-two-year-old Larsson, who can play wide on either flank, trained with City for the first time yesterday, while Paul Stancliffe was watching his developments today as the senior squad had the day off.
And depending on Larsson's performance in training today, he could be in line for a place in the squad for the reserve team trip to Doncaster (kick-off 7pm).
Speculation had been mounting at Bootham Crescent since last week that Dolan would be bringing in fresh blood following the capture of leading scorer Michael Proctor for the rest of the season from Sunderland.
But whether Larsson will be the type of player Dolan looks to keep on at the club will depend purely on what he sees over the next few days.
Dolan, who admits he knew nothing about the player until he turned up yesterday, said: "We are having a look at him for the week. He is in the area so we said he could train with us to see how he gets on.
"He trained yesterday with us and didn't look out of place, but one thing you do notice as well though is the fact he is small.
"Depending on how well he gets on today, then there is a possibility he could play for the reserves tomorrow.
"He can play on either flank, but will just have to see how he gets on."
A big say on whether Larsson gets he chance to shine in the competitive environment of a full-blooded Yorkshire derby against Doncaster will come from Stancliffe's assessment on the Norwegian today.
Meanwhile, York City are reminding fans that contrary to reports elsewhere, their Division Three clash with Scunthorpe is on Friday night, kick-off 7.45pm.
