Wakefield businessman Paul Ablett has been elected to Yorkshire's general committee after winning the by-election in West District caused by the resignation of Philip Akroyd.

Ablett, who has made several previously unsuccessful attempts to get on to the committee, will have to seek re-election at the club's annual meeting next March, the time when Akroyd's three-year term would have expired. In a three-cornered fight Ablett gained 525 votes, Dr Edmund Marshall 344 and Graham Voux 36.
